Day 35
Marshall, MI to Rossford, OH
Miles: 124 mi
Elevation Gain: 1,939 ft
What a day! Long, but good — and the best part? We missed all the rain! The roads were a little wet and left us and our bikes a bit messy, but we stayed dry all day, which felt like a win.
Today’s route took us from Marshall, MI into our 10th state: Ohio! 🎉 Hard to believe we’ve come this far. When we crossed the border, there was no sign to mark the milestone — which was disappointing after all those miles. In our exhausted state, we resorted to making “O” shapes with our arms for a photo. Not our most creative moment, but at 88 miles into a 124-mile day, it was all we had in us!
Ohio welcomed us with smooth, flat roads and even a slight tailwind at times, which was a gift. The last mile into Rossford got a little dicey with traffic, so we had to stay extra vigilant — a reminder that, yes, we really are riding our bikes across the entire country, inch by inch. Some riders like to call it EFI — Every Fabulous Inch (I promised my mom I’d keep this blog clean, so you can fill in your own “F” 😉).
It was also bittersweet leaving Michigan behind. Riding through my home state filled me with a sense of closeness and pride. I still can’t quite believe I’ve pedaled all the way from the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon to Michigan. That alone feels crazy! And now we’re onto Ohio — another milestone in this wild adventure.
