Day 42

Corning, NY to Cazenovia, NY

  • Miles: 101 mi

  • Elevation Gain: 5,546 ft

We rolled out of Corning this morning bundled up — temps were in the low 40s — but the sunshine quickly warmed things up and layers came off as the day went on. It was a challenging ride, full of rollers and a few steady climbs that kept us working, but the scenery more than made up for it.

The highlight of my morning was having Steve there to send me off 💕. Hard to believe he’ll be back in just a few days to greet me before the final ride into Portland!

At lunch, I had the best surprise: I heard someone yell, “Is that Katie from Kalamazoo?” and it was Bob, a P2P alum I met at Trek’s Greenville Ride Camp. Shortly after, John, another P2P alum, showed up with apple pie for the group 🥧. Such an unexpected treat and such a great reminder of the strength and warmth of this community.

The afternoon brought some headwinds — more annoying than tough — but it was another gorgeous day to ride. We rolled past bright fall colors, rivers, and through charming towns, including Ithaca. By the time we arrived in Cazenovia, spirits were high despite the long day.

Tonight, we’re staying at the beautiful Brewster Inn, right on Lake Cazenovia. Dinner here was absolutely amazing — one of the best meals of the trip — and a perfect way to wrap up a big, memorable day.
