Following the Sunrise: Sometimes You Just Have to Jump In

8.4.25

Greetings!

Seventeen days until I leave! Am I excited? Absolutely. Do I feel ready? I think so! But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also a little nervous.

This past weekend was a perfect reminder that no matter how much you prepare, life has a way of surprising you. I was heading out for a group ride from our cottage on Gull Lake Island. Steve and Bernie dropped me off at the dock — me in full riding gear, ready to roll — when, somehow, Bernie ended up in the lake between the boat and the dock.

Without thinking, I jumped in after him — helmet, cycling kit, and all. Not exactly the start to my ride I had planned, but it was a good reminder: sometimes you just have to jump in (literally) and deal with the unexpected.

I have a feeling that lesson will come in handy over the next 3,800 miles. I’m looking forward to sharing my adventures with you here along the way! Please feel free to leave comments — your support will be my fuel.

Love,

Katie

Bernie
