Day 13

Helena, MT to Three Forks, MT

  • Miles: 88 mi

  • Elevation Gain: 3,491 ft

Today’s Ride
Woohoo! Day 13 was 88 miles with 3,491 feet of climbing. We got a wake-up call right out of the hotel parking lot with a hill to get the blood flowing, and just a mile later stopped to admire the Montana State Capitol Building — beautiful! We grabbed a couple of quick pictures before rolling on.

At our first rest stop, we met Christian from France, who is biking all the way from Alaska to Patagonia. Just when you think you’re doing something wild, someone comes along to make your adventure seem tame!

Roads today were excellent, including time on I-15, which surprisingly had a wide shoulder and very little traffic. The best part of the day came after lunch when we entered a stunning canyon with a river running beside us. The scenery was absolutely spectacular.

We finished the day in Three Forks, MT, a charming little town. We’re staying at the historic Sacajawea Hotel, built in 1910, which is beautiful. Dinner was in the cozy basement bar — the perfect way to end a long but wonderful day.

All in all, today felt like one of the best yet: manageable miles, smooth roads, and jaw-dropping scenery. The camaraderie of the group continues to make these days fly by. Tomorrow will be a lighter day — about 40 miles into Bozeman, MT, with some time to explore and relax in the afternoon.

Thanks, as always, for following along and sending so much love and support. 😘
