Day 2
Astoria, OR to Portland, OR
Miles: 100 mi
Elevation Gain: 4,768 ft
Today’s Ride
We officially got rolling today with a 100-mile ride from Astoria into Portland. The morning started beautifully, and while the forecast promised brutal heat, it topped out at “only” 96 degrees 🥵. The route included plenty of climbing — 4,768 feet in all — with one especially memorable climb that definitely got my attention 🚵♀️.
Our Group & Guides
There are 23 riders total — 10 women and 13 men — from across the U.S., the U.K., and Australia. It’s an amazing mix of backgrounds and experiences, it has been really fun getting to know everyone!
We’re supported by five incredible Trek Travel guides — Brent, Kyle, Maggie, Scott, and Marty. Each day, two of them ride alongside us, while the other three leapfrog the course to keep us safe, hydrated, and well-fed. They set up a “feed zone” every 20–25 miles, with lunch somewhere along the way. Today, with the miles and the heat, our stops were pretty quick, but they were still a great chance to connect with other riders and swap stories from the road.
Highlights
🚴 Riding into Portland alongside five other women — the camaraderie was incredible.
🏕 A stop at a quiet campsite for a delicious picnic lunch.
🌄 Gorgeous scenery, even with the less-fun company of logging semis along the way.
💛 The energy of the group is high — everyone’s excited to be here and ready to take on this journey together.
Today was long, hot, and challenging — but also so energizing. Sharing this experience with this amazing group of riders, supported so well by our guides, makes me even more excited for the days to come.
I also want to pause and say thank you to all my friends and family — your blog comments, Instagram notes, and Facebook messages mean the world to me. I feel so lucky to have so much love, support, and positive energy coming my way. Thank you! 😘😘😘
